A practicing visual artist for the past ten years, Sausan is currently pursuing her MFA degree in Painting from The Savannah College of Art and Design as a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship Award.
Working primarily in oils her subject matter oscillates between themes of frailty, contradictions, dichotomies and the human condition, so to speak. The intervention of the figure however has remained constant and this presence of the protagonist is often central to her themes.
The work is mostly autobiographical and deals with issues of identity, often in the format of a narrative. The paintings are introspective and although they usually talk of the individual, they are based largely on universal themes of struggle, relationships and the banalities of urban living.
Frivolous and playful in content, Sausan enjoys incorporating humor into her works. Visually, the pieces have strong contemporary undertones but the Pop like elements often mask deeper sentiments of tedium and inertia.
